Naar aanleiding van de her en der opduikende berichten over het, in 2006, rijden van Max Biaggi op een Kawasaki heeft de racesportredactie vanmorgen contact opgenomen met het Kawasaki GP-team dat momenteel test in Maleisië.

Uiteraard hebben we de vraag gesteld of er enige waarheid schuilt in de her en der opduikende geruchten. Volgens deze geruchten rijdt Max Biaggi in 2006, met Camel sponsoring, op een gele Kawasaki ZX-RR in de MotoGP-klasse. De, vanwege zijn nukkige en verwijtende gedrag, door Honda aan de kant geschoven 'Romeinse keizer' is wanhopig op zoek naar een zitje voor het komend seizoen.

Vanuit het, in Maleisië, testende Kawasaki team wordt het gerucht echter resoluut naar het rijk der fabelen verwezen.
"Binnen ons team is hier niets van bekend. Wij verwijzen dit gerucht dan ook resoluut naar het rijk der fabelen. Er komt, komend seizoen, geen Kawasaki met Max Biaggi aan de start voor zover wij weten", aldus onze bron binnen het Kawasaki team. "Max Biaggi is niet op bezoek bij ons team en is, door ons, ook in het geheel niet gesignaleerd op het circuit."
Het hele verhaal leek de redactie van Racesport.nl ook al erg onwaarschijnlijk gezien de eerdere berichten uit onder andere het Kawasaki kamp rondom deze zaak. Ook het, in de geruchten, voortdurend genoemde bedrag van 12 miljoen euro dat Camel zou willen betalen lijkt ons volkomen misplaatst. Dit bedrag was aan de orde toen Camel, samen met Sito Pons, met Honda onderhandelde over volledige fabrieks RCV's voor, in elk geval, Gibernau (in Valencia nog druk in onderhandeling met Pons en Honda alvorens hij zijn krabbel zette bij Ducati) en Biaggi. Op het moment dat Honda nul op het rekest gaf voor wat betreft de fabrieks RCV's was ook het bedrag van 12 miljoen van tafel.

In de MotoGP is iets pas echt zeker als de eerste wedstrijd van het seizoen van start gaat. Het lijkt er echter steeds meer op dat die eerste wedstrijd van start zal gaan zonder de deelname van Max Biaggi, maar wie weet wat er nog uit de hoge hoed getoverd gaat worden.

Max Biaggi hopes to be able to announce his future MotoGP plans by the time he appears at the Bologna Motorshow on 8-9 December.

During the show, Biaggi will take on the likes of double 2005 MotoGP winner Marco Melandri, 250GP frontrunner Andrea Dovizioso, WSBK star Lorenzo Lanzi, former MotoGP rider Troy Bayliss and freestyle specialist Kenny Bartram in a special 'Bikers Rally' using Fiat Panda rally cars.

"I'll be in Bologna on December the 8th for the Panda Rally and on the 9th for the meeting with 'La Gazzetta dello Sport'," Max wrote on his official website. "Both days I'll be mostly at [my] fan club stand and I hope to be able to give you, with Camel friends, some good news about my future."

Kawasaki remains favourite to field Biaggi in 2006, with Camel money expected to back the Bridgestone shod factory team and allow a third ZX-RR to be run for the Roman.

Meanwhile, Biaggi's arch rival Valentino Rossi will also be present at the Bologna show, when he will be back behind the wheel of a Subaru Impreza WRC car.

Roman moanster Max Biaggi's last-ditch efforts to remain in MotoGP have sensationally gone 'beard-up' after Camel, his chummy sponsor, have decided to leave him and head back to Pons Honda.

"Camel Ciggy Corporation have been running some market research regarding this issue" admitted a well informed informant "They found that bald, moaning non-champions, especially ones with beards, related to the wrong kind of people. That's why they've dropped Max and decided to head back to Sito Pons with their tale between their legs. Camel feel that their cigarettes combined with Casey Stoner would help promote the brand, and cigarettes in general, to youngsters who are just starting out on the wonderful tobacco pilgrimage to the Mecca lung cancer ward."


Not a Biaggi fan. Cig giants are all now aiming low.

Up until now Biaggi's been the proverbial 'rich kid at school' - everyone hated him but hung around him for his cash handouts. However now that the Roman's cash has deserted him like his original cranium hair he's found himself out of favour with everyone and everything.

Until today Kawasaki were the only team left entertaining the prospect of tolerating Biaggi for 2006. They welcomed the wheelbarrow of money with open wallets but were demanding strict clauses in Biaggi's contract. These were rumoured to include:-

Under no circumstances could Biaggi talk to, and thus verbally pollute, any of the factory riders or team members.
Biaggi's pit garage should be as physically far away from the Kawasaki garage as possible. Ideally at another circuit.
Kawasaki could amend any press release Biaggi releases by putting the word 'Not' at the end.
Biaggi could never use the word 'we' when describing his own poor performances.
Such contact skulduggery now seems irrelevant with the news that Camel have jumped ship back to Honda.
Biaggi was hoping to announce the move to Kawasaki to his fan club at the Bologna Motorshow on the 8th of December. However after today's events it seems both members of his fan club will be informed at the dinner table tonight.
